Negative taken for March 21, 1958, Arkansas Gazette article "Library Idea Is One for the Book," B1:2. "Operation Library" is a project started by the West Memphis Junior Chamber of Commerce in Crittenden County, Arkansas, to encourage citizens to put their time, effort, and money together to improve their local libraries. Cecil U. Edmonds, a West Memphis Jaycee, started "Operation Library," in 1955 when M.W. "Doc" Hightshoe, the city librarian, asked for help for the struggling library that existed at the time. The Arkansas State Jaycees embraced the project, at Edmonds' suggestion. The idea is now a national project of the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce. The West Memphis Jaycees honored Edmonds at an appreciation dinner during National Library Week, March 16-22. Edmonds (right), and Bessie B.
